If the United States had taken a better approach to Iran in 1953, Iraq would not be the problem it is today. Iraq is a product of this 1953 coup and today's relationship must be understood in light of this event. An historical accounting of it reveals repeated instances of Iran being treated in ways that have caused the relationship to become one of a "spiral of conflict." The key question is why did the U.S. make this initial mistake in 1953? Why did it support a coup against a democratically elected government?

Senator Chuck Hagel Speaks Out
for AIC at Two Events on 3/2/07

U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) will be speaking for AIC at two events on Friday, March 2, 2007. Senator Hagel is a prospective Presidential candidate. He has not only expressed thoughtful positions on various issues concerning the Middle East, but has also taken some very difficult positions politically. The AIC is proud to host Sen. Hagel at these two events. The first event will be held in New York City and is an exclusive private luncheon by invitation only. The second event will be held at Rutgers University-The State University of New Jersey in the Jane Vorhees Zimmerli Museum from 3:30 p.m to 5:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required by calling 732.445.8444 ext. 17 or by email before Thursday, March 1st, 2007.
