The American Iranian Council strongly condemns the terrorist act in Tehran on July 23 2011, which took the life of an Iranian scientist, Daryoush Rezaeinejad in front of his wife and young daughter. He was gunned down in cold-blood while waiting to pick up his daughter from the kindergarten. The terrorists riddled his body with bullets, hitting his neck and fatally wounding him, while also critically wounding his wife. Daryoush Rezaeinejad was a member of Tehran's Khajeh Nasir University specializing in electronics.

This inhumane attack is the latest in a spree of targeted assassinations of Iranian scientists, involved in Iran’s nuclear research, which Iranians from every stripe have overwhelmingly supported as their inalienable right. Western countries including Israel vehemently oppose Iran’s nuclear enrichment program.
Past acts of targeted assassinations have only exacerbated the frustration felt within the Iranian society of the double standards applied to Iran’s nuclear program by the West. The latest terrorist act will only fuel this hatred and builds higher walls of mistrust between Iran and its nemesis.
It is unfortunate that Iran’s image should be so demonized that even murdering its brightest minds is justified with silence. We need to unite and bring a halt to this insanity and raise our voices for reason, justice, peace and prosperity for all.
